I went for a wonderful ride today. It was a T.R.O.T (Trail Riders of Today) ride on the rails to trails. We started out at Amy Beems farm and ended in Dover where Gary Beem picked us up with the horse trailer. It was fun riding out knowing we did not have to turn around and go back. I was chilly out when I arrived at Amy's house only being in the high 40's. Sondra came on her motorcycle and was bundled up very warmly. I was riding Amy's horse, Weezie and Sondra was riding another of Amy's horse, Moxie. Neither my horse or mule, just coming back from soft tissue injuries, was ready for a long ride. And, Weezie is one of my favorite short ears to ride and so I was happy for an excuse to ride her.
We headed out around 9:30 AM. It was starting to warm up nicely. We had packed lunches to have out on the trail. We rode two miles through the woods from Amy's house to get to the rails to trails. All the horses were very good. We met up with quite a few ATV's and dirt bikes. Not as many as you'd expect for a lovely weekend day but still quite a few. Weezie startled at the first one but then was just fine with the rest. We took turns leading other then Sondra on Moxie. She is still was the youngest horse and was happier to follow. We only had one scare when a couple dogs jumped up out of the bushes. They were both tied but one could get very close to the trail and it gave the horses quite a scare though Weezie was actually pretty good about it after the initial jump. I think I jumped harder then she did!

We stopped for lunch at a pretty spot by a pond. We had been told that the pick up point would be at the 24 or 27 mile marker where we would come to an Irving Station just after crossing a big bridge. We got to the 24 mile marker and no bridge and no Irving station. We got to the 27 mile marker and still no bridge or Irving station. at about 28 miles, we see Gary and Eli walking up the trail towards us and know we are close to the end now. The bridge was fun to cross. It was quite high and long. We loaded up the horses and headed back to Amy's house. Once there we unloaded the horses, untacked and fed them. Sondra had to head home as it was getting late. Amy had made a wonderful beef stew and apple pie for supper. A perfect way to end a lovely day.
Amy on Washburn, Sondra on Moxie, Cindy on Weezie and Sierra on Amanda
